The original architect of this building was John Bennie Wilson, a specialist in Gothic style architecture, completed his work and the building became established as Hutcheson town Free Church.D
A nearby church known as Victoria United Free Church on Eglington Toll was destroyed due to a fire. Hutchesontown Free Church and Victoria Free Church Joined to become known as Crosshill Victoria Free Church on Dixon Avenue.
The building was now vacant and was bought by businessman and artist, Max Wallace. The building was converted to an art gallery and exhibition centre known as Maxwell Studios.
Alhumdulilah – Firstly by the will of Allah and then with the dedication of our elders, the building was purchased and established as a masjid. AFECC was born, providing Glasgow’s Muslim community with a centre for worship and education upon tawheed and the authentic teachings of Islam
With the building now being almost 120 years old, it was in need of major external and internal building works. The roof renovations were completed first and foremost.

The inauguration of AFECC’s Social Welfare department which seen the set-up of our food bank service, and later, our Mother and Toddler’s group.
AFECC held the first Jummah Khutbah to be translated into British Sign Language in Scotland.
For the first time since 1999, major renovation works were completed to our “Small Hall” whilst managing to preserve the building’s original stained windows and structural beam work.

The upstairs gallery area, which was used by Maxwell Studios, was redesigned and restructured into purpose built classrooms for our students.
Our designated sister’s space down stairs was fully renovated.
AFECC holds Glasgow’s first ever outdoor Eid Salah in a nearby Park, Cathkin Park.
Alhumdulilah, AFECC’s Community Halls building, on Daisy St – a few streets away from Dixon Avenue, was acquired for the purpose of youth and community initiatives. Fundraising and renovations are in progress to bring the building to a fit for purpose standard.
